Fishing Report: 4-30-15
Early spring arrival and an under average snowpack in the mountains around Livingston and Bozeman will result in an early fly fishing season on most of our Montana rivers and streams. We should be setup for early season hatches and potentially an early terrestrial season. After the great water year last year we should have lots of fish in less water this year. Hopefully the summer weather and forest fires will be kind and yield excellent dry fly and streamer opportunities. Whatever the conditions may bring over the 2015 fly fishing season, our Montana fly fishing guides will be looking to fish the right rivers and small streams at the right time. Currently, the pre runoff season has been awesome with plenty of midge and baetis action and larger mayfly hatches coming off on cloudy days. Parachutes in a variety of sizes are the dry flies of choice until the runoff subsides. As the water begin to fall look for Green and Brown Drakes on the cloudy days, and stoneflies and caddis when the sun shines. Streamer fishing is awesome in the spring for big trout, and my personal favorite mouse fishing until after dark.
